Special Delivery?

So Domino’s pizza has been running a rather, ahem, interesting online ad campaign lately. Having recently used their online portal to order myself a lunchtime snack (die, coronaries, die!), I find myself an unfortunate victim of some kind of re-targeting campaign which refuses to clear off. And instead of tempting me by putting a picture of, oh, I don’t know, an oozingly cheese topped and pizza with lip smacking toppings, which is the obvious choice for luring in poor hapless carb crunchers like myself, this animated flash is what I got instead.

Yup. Those arrows are FERTILIZING my pizza.

Now I don’t know which genius mind thought of this concept, but I’m sorry to say that the sight of millions of little arrows racing to be the first to get to that otherwise delectable looking pizza – not the most appetizing image. Even if I can get past the arrows rushing in like little warriors in 300, they proceed to wiggle around most obscenely, leaving no room in your mind as to the allusion, and more likely to evoke a “WTF!?!?!?!” reaction rather than – “Oh yum! Ovaries! Let’s order a pizza!”

Basically, Domino’s really needs to rethink their current creative. I’m not sure what they were thinking when they put together this unusual idea, but to me, who would not hesitate for an instant to order a Double Cheese Burst pizza with Garlic bread and 2 Cheesy Dips on the side– the only kind of “Khushiyon Ki Home Delivery” I’m thinking of is probably Not Safe For Work.

Frozen Moments

It was only a matter of time before the most luxe ice cream brand in the world made its way to the hallowed grounds of South Bombay. The new Haagen Dazs ice cream parlour at the food court of PVR Phoenix is spacious and modern, the maroon and copper tones giving the setting its hint of class. You are warmly greeted by two hosts as you enter, and are immediately enveloped by the scintillating smell of hot waffles and chocolate and other delicious things. The flavours counter is right in front of you, so the second you walk in, the agonizing debate of what to indulge in begins.

As for me, the biggest sinner of them all when it comes to dessert - as far as their flavours go, Haagen Dazs can do no wrong. Be it the richly flavoured belgian chocolate, or the creamy, milky dulce de leche (milk candy), or the evocative strawberry cheesecake, anything you try here is bound to make you crave more. The waffles are divine, perfectly cooked and topped off with a scoop of french vanilla. The cappuccino truffle is an eternal favourite.

I won't lie- it is bloody expensive for ice cream, and definitely not something you can make a habit out of if you don't want to become obese anytime soon. But as an occasional treat, it is definitely the most luxuriously sinful indulgence I can recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth. Truly, love at first bite.

First Course

So I've finally taken the plunge into the intense world of blogging. It’s a move I have long been contemplating, teetering back and forth between sheer laziness and the desire to claim my own little piece of cyberspace. I must say, it feels pretty damn awesome, and at the same time I sense a little trepidation. What do I want this blog to be? A memoir, a travelogue, a place to rant and vent, an escape? What do people like reading about? Do I want people to care at all? I’ve always found that when in doubt, it helps to make a list. So :

  1. I love food. I love writing. Therefore, I will write about food.
  2. I like to remember the places I travel to. Travelogue-ish.
  3. A little bit of “life as we know it” keeps me in touch with my roots.
And a plan materializes. So there you go – as often as I can, served up steaming hot and 100% ME, I give you the musings of a humble SoBo foodie– Plate from the Heart. Bon appétit.
